Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions

For Donors

What is a donor-advised fund?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a charitable giving account that allows you to make tax-deductible contributions, recommend grants to qualified nonprofits, and build a lasting legacy, all without the complexity of a private foundation.

How do I start a fund?

The best first step is to contact us. We'll schedule a conversation to learn about your goals, answer your questions, and help you determine which pathway is the best fit.

What are the tax benefits?

The Anthony Spano Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. For DAFs specifically: Donor-advised funds are simpler and less expensive than private foundations. You get immediate tax deductions, no startup costs, no annual tax filings, and no minimum distribution requirements, while still maintaining advisory privileges over your charitable giving.

Can I donate stocks or assets?

Yes! We can accept various types of charitable contributions beyond cash, including stocks, bonds, real estate, and other assets.

For Projects

What is fiscal sponsorship?

Fiscal sponsorship allows you to launch a charitable project under our 501(c)(3) status. We handle compliance, tax-exempt donations, financial management, and reporting, so you can focus entirely on your mission.

Who can apply?

Individuals or groups with a charitable project idea that aligns with our mission are welcome to apply. Whether you're a community organizer, grassroots activist, or solo change-maker, if your project serves the community, we want to hear from you.

How much does it cost?

We charge a modest administrative fee to cover operational costs, financial management, and compliance support. This fee is significantly lower than the cost of running your own nonprofit.

How long does approval take?

The review process typically takes 2–4 weeks depending on project complexity. We work to move as quickly as possible while ensuring proper due diligence. This is on a case by case basis.

For Advisors

How do we partner?

Reach out to discuss your client's charitable goals. We work with you and your client to establish a donor-advised fund tailored to their objectives. We handle ongoing administration, compliance, and reporting while you maintain the client relationship.

What are your fees?

We charge a small administrative fee to cover operational costs, professional fund management, and compliance support. Our volunteer-led model keeps fees significantly lower than private foundations.

Do you serve clients nationwide?

Yes. Refer clients nationwide without restriction. Unlike other foundations tied to specific regions, we support donors and projects anywhere in the United States.

What's your minimum?

We work with donors at various giving levels. Contact us to discuss your goals and we'll help structure a fund that works for you.

Can't Find What You Need?

We're here to help. Reach out with any questions and our volunteer board will get back to you within 2–3 business days.
